Application:
imulation of preoperative & postoperative (virtually implanted) femur bone to enable comparison of implant designs and position / orientation in the patient & assessment of bone remodelling.

 Scope:  Change in stress/strain distribution in the bone following THA often results in bone density loss and potential fracture of the bone. In this study two different types of femur implants were modelled in a time dependent study in parallel to the preoperative state in a patient specific (mean) femur geometry (generated from a CT scan). The difference between pre- and post-operative models was used to determine the incremental change in density in the bone over time.
